How to Grow your Instagram Following

Need to boost engagement and activity on your Instagram account? Here are some tips you may want to implement:

  1. Create a plan: Just like anything else, if you don't have a roadmap to get to your destination, you will very likely NOT reach your destination. You will get lost, frustrated and give up. Let me help you prevent this from happening! You need to figure out your sales funnels and clearly decide how you will be generating leads and inquiries. Then you need to ensure you are targeting the right crowds, those that need your services, and give them some good content. Your content needs to be savable and shareable. It is time to put a marketing lens of your Instagram growth as this is where Millennials are spending their time on. And remember this: what matters is not how many followers you have - what matters is how targeted those who follow you are, so that you can turn them into paying customers.

  2. Stop buying likes and followers! It may have been working in the past. It doesn't work anymore. This is social media marketing 101. Your followers have to be legit and real. Observing growth-hacking tricks is dangerous as it is recognized by social media platforms that will ban you or restrict you from getting the attention you seek. Don't fall into the scams that are everywhere on the web. This follows the same principle that applies to life in general: "When it looks like it's good too to be true, it is probably too good to be true!"

  3. Shop up regularly and build trust: Just like any relationship, if you are out of sight, you end up being forgotten! If you want to grow your followers, you need to post value content regularly. Be real and authentic. Address issues and challenges they may have. Bring optimism, guidance and solutions.Yes I know that creating good content takes time and skills that not everyone has. If you can't post every day, post twice a week - that's fine! Just commit to that schedule as a lot of it is about consistency.

  4. Create uniqueness and distinguished visual identity: In a crowded digital world, it is more and more essential to build uniqueness so you stand out from the crowds and be remembered. Spend time on building your brand foundations and be consistent with your look and feel. It's particularly important on Instagram. Check here one of my clients IG feed as an example.

  5. Do strategic outreach: Outward engagement doesn't mean cold messaging. It's about finding quality followers. Like their posts, leaving meaningful comments, talk to them! It's a give and take game. You have to have conversations and build trust.

While social media is not a replacement for networking, referrals or word-of-mouth marketing, it's a very inexpensive way to grow a network, generate traffic to your site and grow sales. But just like anything else, it has to be done right. Hiring a marketing intern with zero experience may not always do the trick. Unfortunately, I see that mistake made by a lot of companies that think they are saving money by paying low wages. If you want results, you need to invest in the right people. Otherwise, you might as well throw your money in the gutter.
